ENG 3010--Intermediate Writing

Rationale:

ENG 3010 at Wayne State meets the graduation requirement for Intermediate Writing (IW).  As such, it is the bridge course between the introduction to academic writing genres and the Writing Intensive course that students will take in their major.  In my 3010 class, students write an extended, multi-stage research paper on a topic within their major.  They are required to analyze the discourse community of their field as a preparation for the research project.  Once aware of the generic conventions of their field, students write a proposal, literature review, presentation, and ultimately a lengthy research paper.  After completing this course, students should be prepared to recognize and enter the discourse community of their academic major.
