ENG 1020--Introduction to Writing

Rationale:

ENG 1020 is the required Basic Composition course that all Wayne State students must pass in order to graduate.  It is designed as a course that introduces students to the concept of discourse communities and what it means to write in an academic environment.  Within my class, we focus on the genres of rhetorical analysis, genre analysis, and argument.  Each of the assignments are scaffolded so that students can build on their skills and growing awareness of academic discourse.  Ultimately, students need to be able to transfer their writing skills into new rhetorical situations.
